KESTURI FOCUSED ON RECTIFYING
Working closely with authorities to reconstruct retaining wall

3 December 2008, KUALA LUMPUR – The concessionaire of the Duta Ulu-Kelang Expressway (DUKE), Konsortium Lebuhraya Utara -Timur (KESTURI) has taken immediate measures to reconstruct the retaining wall that collapsed last Thursday at Kampung Chubadak.  The reconstructed retaining wall will be completed in less than two (2) weeks from today instead of the initial three (3) week period.

Re-assessment of the collapsed retaining wall indicated that a full length rubble wall with a two (2) meter base would ensure that there would be no recurrence of the incident.  KESTURI has been working closely with the authorities to ensure that the specifications laid down are adhered to by the turnkey contractors. As an additional proactive measure, KESTURI has also instructed the contractors to evaluate such structures along the entire expressway to ensure that they do not pose any risk to third party property.

The contractors involved have been instructed to ensure that proper due diligence is carried out in the wall reconstruction.  The cost of the repair will be fully borne by the contractor.

While the rebuilding of the collapsed wall will not cause delay to the completion of the expressway, KESTURI has put the completion of the retaining wall as utmost priority.
